We are a training practice and we may offer you an appointment with a GP registrar. These doctors are fully qualified and will have worked in several hospitals. They are completing their specialist training as a GP.
We also teach medical students and sometimes we may ask you to see the doctor or nurse with a student present. We will always ask you if this is acceptable. You may ask for the student to leave if you prefer to have your appointment in private.
Work Experience and Medical Shadowing
As a practice we support year 10 and 12 students seeking work experience (up to 1 week) between June and August each year. Students are given the opportunity to experience all aspects of work that is carried out in the surgery. The application window for work experience is 30th January to 30th March and successful candidates will be notified within 2 weeks of the window closing.
The practice can also provide Medical Shadowing which is aimed at individuals who are looking to shadow a doctor (up to 3 days) for experience to add to their personal statement for medical school application. Medical Shadowing will be considered at any time of the year and will be dependent on clinician capacity.
To protect patient confidentiality and data protection we do not accept applications from any student who is a patient at the surgery, lives with a patient of the surgery or lives in our catchment area. All successful applicants will be required to complete data protection and confidentiality training.
All students must provide the following as part of their initial application:
- a reference
- a written application regarding their interest in medicine
- an account of an experience (positive or negative) that has changed something about them.
- the reasons they wish to attend work experience at Caldbeck Surgery
- the dates they wish to attend
