Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) injection

NICE – the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, which advises the NHS on use of medicines – is expecting to approve Mounjaro (also known as Tirzepatide) for some patients from 23rd June 2025.

A weight-loss service using “Mounjaro” is being planned by NHS organisations, but please note that further details are still to be confirmed.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) is a new medicine that helps people lose weight. Further information on this, including frequently asked questions can be found on the North East and North Cumbria’s Integrated Care Board’s website (see below)

Semaglutide (Wegovy) tablet

The UK’s first GLP-1 receptor agonist tablet for weight loss and weight management has been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)

Whilst this tablet is approved for use in the UK, it is not available currently via the NHS. As with all new treatments, decisions on NHS use will follow established processes, including an evaluation by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
